The Sacred Site of Yoshii Blue Where the Waterfall Pool Glows with Mystical Blue in the Sunlight

About this spot

Located in the foothills of Kochi Prefecture's Ino Town at Shimizu Teino, at a waterfall pool on the Edagawa River, a tributary of the Yoshii River, this is a renowned sacred site that brought the term "Yoshii Blue" to national attention. When sunlight streams in, the water of the waterfall pool glows with a mystical blue so transparent that the bottom is visible. Legend has it that a great serpent, believed to be the incarnation of a water deity, dwells here, and local people have long revered this as a sacred place. In recent years, footpaths and stairs have been developed, allowing visitors to descend close to the waterfall pool itself to experience the blue world up close. The water's surface changes color constantly with shifts in light angle and weather conditions, offering a unique beauty each time you visit.

Tips

Parking is limited, so arriving early in the morning is recommended. Wear slip-resistant shoes as the descent to the waterfall pool involves steep stairs. As this is a sacred place treasured by the local community, please view the falls quietly without entering the water. There are no shops or vending machines in the area, so bring drinks with you.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 60 minutes. The blue is most vivid when sunlight streams in from late morning through noon on clear days, and the morning is less crowded.
