Conclude Your Journey with Fresh Seafood and Whale Cuisine at a Service Area

About this spot

A service area in an excellent location along National Route 55 with views of the Pacific. The direct-sales shop 'Rakuichi' displays an array of Muroto's bounty: fresh fish and dried fish caught locally, salt and processed goods made with Muroto Deep-Sea Water, and seasonal vegetables and fruits. At Restaurant 'Shokuyuu Kujira no Sato,' you can enjoy whale dishes and fresh seafood set meals unique to Muroto, a town historically prosperous from whaling, while overlooking the sea. The grounds also house the 'Whale Museum,' which uses interactive exhibits to explore whaling history and culture—offering fascinating insight into Muroto's deep connection with whales. It's the perfect spot to conclude your meal and select souvenirs.

Tips

The restaurant may take a break between lunch and evening service, so check operating hours before arrival. Bring a cooler bag if purchasing fresh fish or dried fish. The direct-sales shop runs low on inventory near closing, so decide on souvenirs early.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Stop by in the evening on your way back to minimize the time carrying fresh seafood.
