A Learning Center to Meet Dragonfly Specimens and Shimanto River Fish
About this spot
A learning center located within the Tombo Nature Park in the outskirts of Shimanto City, established as the world's first dragonfly conservation area. The facility features two main sections: the Tombo Hall with a collection of dragonfly specimens from around the world, and the Sakana Hall where fish from the Shimanto River swim. The Tombo Hall displays approximately 1,000 varieties of specimens in diverse colors and shapes, while the Sakana Hall allows close observation of the giant akaame (phantom fish), ayu sweetfish, eels, and other creatures that inhabit clear streams. Previewing the Shimanto River's wildlife before your boat journey will dramatically change the way you see the water's surface.
Tips
Located about 10 minutes by car from Shimanto City center with free parking. If walking the nearby wetland garden path of the Tombo Nature Park, wear comfortable walking shoes as morning dew may wet the ground.
Best time to visit
Plan approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Arriving right after opening in the early morning means the facility is quiet, and you can enjoy the aquariums all to yourself.
