His birthplace is a sake brewery standing beside a canal, its white-plastered and namako (sea cucumber) walls testifying to the prosperity of its era. Inside, Hakushu's publications and personal items are displayed; in the adjacent memorial museum, you can learn about the poet's life and the traditional customs and lifestyle of Yanagawa's water village.
