This tree-lined avenue stretches about 500 meters straight toward Akizuki Castle Ruins. It takes its name from a former riding ground where clan samurai practiced horseback archery beneath a stand of cedar trees. Today, approximately 200 cherry trees line the path, creating a tunnel of blossoms in spring that extends all the way to the castle ruins. Along the street are local restaurants, sweet-treat shops, souvenir stores, and museums, making it a perfect place to soak in castle town atmosphere. Stop at a teahouse for lunch and savor dishes unique to mountain castle towns, such as refreshingly smooth kuzu soumen made with pure arrowroot. The street is equally beautiful during fresh greenery and autumn foliage seasons, making it a route you'll want to revisit across different seasons.
