A cape at the very tip of the Higashimatsuura Peninsula jutting into Genkai Sea. The specialty is grilled turban shell (tsubo-yaki) from the cove's sales shop. Drizzle soy sauce over turban shells sizzling and bubbling over charcoal, and the aroma of the rocky shore rises up. Enjoy the bounty of Genkai Sea with grilled squid. After your meal, leisurely stroll across the grassy cape. The white heart-shaped monument named after "Hado" (ハド) is known as a sacred place for lovers and is a classic photo spot. Before you spreads a vast ocean stretching to Iki, and the surrounding area has national vacation lodges and campgrounds, making it the center of Genkai Sea tourism.
Tips
The tsubo-yaki shop gets crowded during lunch hours, so arriving a bit earlier is recommended. Freshly grilled turban shells have hot shells, so for small children it's best to portion them out. The cape's tip has nothing to block the wind, so having an extra layer is comfortable.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Arriving before noon when the shop is less crowded, then strolling around the cape after eating, is ideal.
