A representative archaeological park of Japan that preserves a large-scale moated settlement from the Yayoi period. Within the moat and palisade-enclosed village, a watchtower, pit dwellings, and elevated storehouses have been reconstructed, while the impressive grand ritual hall in the north compound, thought to have been the center of ceremonies, is truly spectacular. Climbing the watchtower affords a panoramic view of the entire village and the ranges of Sefuri Mountain, and the scene of life two thousand years ago seems to rise before your eyes. The displays of burial urns and the north burial mound allow close viewing of Yayoi funeral practices, while hands-on programs such as making magatama beads and starting fire are also popular. This is the highlight of the course where both history enthusiasts and children can lose themselves in the Yayoi world.

Tips

The park grounds are vast, so it's best to focus on the moated settlement zone. The park bus is available for getting around. There are few shaded areas, so bring a hat and water. Experience programs have set times, so check the day's schedule upon entry for peace of mind.
