The Arao Tidal Flat stretching before the Ariake Sea is one of Japan's largest single tidal flats and a world-valuable wetland registered under the Ramsar Convention. It is known as an important stopover for migratory birds such as sandpipers and plovers. This center, standing on the banks of the tidal flat, allows you to learn about water birds and tidal flat ecosystems through engaging displays and videos. Beyond the large windows spreads the mudflat sea, transforming with the tides' ebb and flow, glimmering silver in the light—a beauty you'll want to gaze upon forever. It's the perfect cool-down spot after the excitement of the amusement park, a place of quiet, soul-soothing time. Admission is free, which is a wonderful bonus.

Tips

The appearance of the tidal flats changes dramatically with the tides, so checking a tide table beforehand will double your enjoyment. Binoculars are handy for observing water birds. The tidal flats at dusk are spectacular, but as this course has another destination, respect the schedule despite the reluctance to leave.
