Affectionately known as "Nakahaku," this museum stands right beside Nakatsu Castle's stone walls. Its distinctive feature is large glass windows that allow you to view authentic stonework up close, creating a space unified with the castle where you can trace Nakatsu's history. The permanent exhibits introduce Nakatsu's journey from ancient times through the castle-town period to the modern era using actual artifacts and models in an easy-to-understand manner. From Kuroda Kanbe's castle construction to the Okudaira clan's rule, your understanding of the Nakatsu Castle you just walked through deepens considerably. The permanent exhibits are free to enter, making it easy to drop by, and there's a museum shop and viewing area overlooking the stone walls, perfect for taking a break during your city walk.

Tips

The permanent exhibits are free, but special exhibitions may charge an admission fee. Viewing the castle first followed by the museum deepens your understanding, so the castle-then-museum order is recommended. Note there are days when the museum is closed, so check the opening calendar in advance.

Plan for approximately 1 hour. Stopping by before lunch allows for a smooth transition to your fried chicken lunch.
