Mountain Village Lunch Greeted by a Kabuki Mask Monument

About this spot

This roadside station along National Route 218, at the entrance to Takachiho town, is marked by a giant kabuki mask monument visible from the parking area. The masks of Amenouzume no Mikoto and Tajikarao no Mikoto welcome travelers and instantly convey that you have arrived in the land of myth. The souvenir shop displays abundant mountain treasures: the region's famous kirichiboshi (shredded dried daikon), Takachiho tea, yuzu-based products, and more. The dining area serves dishes featuring Takachiho beef as well as noodle dishes incorporating kirichiboshi, showcasing flavors unique to this mountainous region. After a morning of sacred site-walking, refuel your body with the bounty of the mountains at a leisurely pace. This is also an excellent spot to preview souvenir options.

Tips

The dining area can become crowded when tour buses arrive around noon, so secure your seat first before ordering. Kirichiboshi and dried goods travel well and make ideal souvenirs. The giant kabuki mask monument is a popular photo spot.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Arriving just before noon helps you avoid the peak rush of tour groups and enjoy a more relaxed meal.
