Wishing Bell and Observation Point Where Rocks Form the Character "Kana"
About this spot
A scenic spot named after rocks split by wave erosion into a cross shape resembling "Kurusu" (Cross in Portuguese). The cross-shaped rocks, when viewed with an adjacent rock formation, appear to form the character "叶" (kana—meaning fulfillment), inspiring a belief that prayers offered here grant wishes. The observation point features a monument bell inscribed "Kurusu-no-Umi Wishing Bell," where the sound of wishes being made echoes constantly. On clear days, the sea glows a brilliant blue, and the contrast between the columnar jointed rocks and white ocean spray is spectacular. A must-visit companion to Uma-ga-Sena and another jewel of Hyuga Cape.
Tips
It's just a short drive from Uma-ga-Sena with easy parking and a brief walk to the observation point. When ringing the bell, be courteous to other visitors. Do not venture beyond the railings onto the rocks—they are dangerous. The sea's vibrant color shows best on clear, sunny days, making such weather ideal for photography.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 30 minutes. Late morning, when the sun is high and the sea's blue is most vivid, offers the best views.
