A Foot Spa Stretching Approximately 100 Meters – Gazing Over Lava Plains and Kinko Bay
About this spot
Located in a seaside park near Sakurajima Port, this foot spa stretches roughly 100 meters—Japan's largest. Remove your shoes, sit at the edge, and feel the warmth gradually spread through your feet, slowly easing away the fatigue from your boat ride and exploration. Before you lies the lava plain created by past eruptions and Kinko Bay, with the cityscape of Kagoshima beyond the water. The contrast between sea and volcano viewed through the steam rising from the spa is a luxury unique to Sakurajima. Combining the park with the Lava Beach Promenade extending along the coast offers a small adventure—walking between the craggy rocks. Best of all, entry is free and casual.
Tips
Bring a towel to dry your feet (forgetting one would be inconvenient). Wear clothes with pant legs that roll up easily; avoid skinny pants for comfort. The seafront offers little shade, so a hat is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 60 minutes. On clear mornings, you can see the cityscape across the bay with wonderful clarity.
