At 373 meters, this is the highest point of Sakurajima accessible to the general public. The craggy, sculptured face of the north peak looms directly before you, and turning around reveals the cityscape of Kagoshima across Kinko Bay, with distant mountains visible on clear days. The raw power of the mountain, which appeared distant when viewed from the port, now feels within arm's reach—a reward reserved for those who have climbed to the mountain's mid-elevation. Tips
From the port area, it takes about 15 minutes by car up winding slopes. Hiking is a considerable distance, so consider using the island's shuttle bus service if you don't have a vehicle. Wind is stronger at higher elevation, so bring a light layer even in summer. Prepare drinks before ascending.

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Clear days with good visibility allow you to see the cityscape and distant mountains.
