Located downstream from Sogi Falls on the shores of Lake Tsuruta created by Tsuruta Dam, this viewpoint reveals a striking red-brick structure—the ruins of a hydroelectric power plant built during the Meiji era to harness the power of Sogi Falls. The connected arched windows resemble a medieval European castle. The electricity generated here supported regional industry, making it an important industrial heritage site reflecting Japan's modernization. The appearance changes with the water level of the dam; when partially submerged, the structure creates an ethereal scene. A quiet scenic spot well worth visiting alongside Sogi Falls.

Tips

Viewing is from the observation point only; you cannot enter the ruins themselves. During periods when the dam's water level is high, much of the ruins may be submerged below the surface and difficult to see—consider it fortunate if visible. The walk from the parking area to the viewpoint is moderate, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
