Sprawling across a highland at the northeastern tip of Amami Oshima overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this park is one of Amami's Ten Scenic Vistas, its name derived from its rounded, bumpy terrain resembling the indigo-dyed cloth balls of traditional weaving. Standing at the observation plaza, the shallow seas below with coral reefs shift from emerald to cobalt in successive layers, and on clear days the view extends all the way to Kikai Island. Within the park grounds is "Misshoran Cafe," which doubles as a tourist information center where you can rest while enjoying the spectacular views. There's also a walking trail bordered by cycad greenery and a playground for children. Just a 10-minute drive from Amami Airport, this scenic spot is perfectly suited as the gateway to your island journey.
Tips
The observation plaza has little shade and strong sunlight, so it's recommended to bring a hat and sunscreen. The cafe has limited seating, so during busy times it's nice to grab a takeaway and relax on the lawn. Car rental pickup at the airport is recommended since car travel is the primary mode of transportation on the island.

Approximately 1 hour. On clear mornings when the air is crisp, the gradation of the sea's blue is most vibrant.
