Mesmerized by Whale Sharks in the Magnificent Kuroshio Current Tank
About this spot
An aquarium boasting one of the largest scales in Kyushu, located adjacent to the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal. The main attraction is the large tank themed on the Kuroshio Current, where whale sharks swim majestically alongside schools of bonito and tuna—a sight that truly takes your breath away. This aquarium is known for the practice of releasing whale sharks back to the sea once they grow sufficiently large. The "Dolphin Time" program held at the dolphin pool is a popular offering where visitors can learn about dolphin physiology and abilities in an engaging way. The facility features abundant exhibits of creatures from Kinko Bay and other local marine life, and you can even view dolphins swimming in the waterway outside the building free of charge—a delightful bonus.
Tips
The air conditioning inside the aquarium can make it feel chilly, so bringing a light jacket is recommended. Since "Dolphin Time" has set performance times, it's best to check the day's schedule upon entry and plan your route through the aquarium accordingly. On weekends and holidays, visiting shortly after opening tends to be less crowded.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes required. The late morning hours shortly after opening are less crowded, allowing you to view the Kuroshio Current Tank at leisure.
