A shrine dedicated to Sugawara-no-Michizane (菅原道真公), the deity of scholarship, with its shrine building perched atop rocky mountains jutting into Kinko Bay. A white sand bar connects the land to the rocky island. As you cross the sandy path listening to the sound of waves and climb the rocks using a rope, the gleaming Kinko Bay and the mountains across the water come into view from the shrine. Standing as if floating on the blue sea, it is a breathtaking sight and known as a premier photo spot representing the Osumi Peninsula. At sunset, the sea turns a deep crimson, making it also a celebrated spot for sunset viewing. Tips

The sand bar can become submerged when the tide is high, making crossing impossible, so checking a tide table beforehand is advisable. Reaching the shrine requires climbing steep rocky terrain using a rope, so wear a bag that keeps your hands free and shoes with good grip. A towel is handy, as your feet may get wet on the sand.
