The mausoleum of Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto (鵜葺草葺不合尊), father of Emperor Jinmu, and his consort Princess Tamayori (玉依姫命), managed by the Imperial Household Agency—a sacred site from the age of gods. This is a rare rock cave mausoleum in Japan, with a cedar-lined approach that follows the clear Aira River, lending it the epithet "Little Ise" for its resemblance to Ise Grand Shrine. As you walk on tamago (sacred pebbles), the only sounds are the babbling of the river and birdsong. The breeze crossing the water surface and dappled sunlight calm a busy travel schedule in an instant. In striking contrast to the open seascape of Arahira Tenjin, this deeply green, serene sanctuary is unparalleled for centering yourself.

Tips

The approach is lined with sacred pebbles and walks easily in proper shoes. Since the beauty lies in its quietness itself, slow, deep breathing while walking is recommended. In summer, the shade by the river is cool and perfect for rest during hot hours. Insect repellent ensures a more comfortable visit.

Best time to visit

Approximately 50 minutes required. Afternoon hours when dappled sunlight filters across the approach are most mystical.
