Kouri Bridge (古宇利大橋)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A roughly 2km-long bridge connecting Yagaji Island (屋我地島) with Kouri Island (古宇利島), the “Island of Love” — among the longest toll-free bridges in Japan. On either side, shallow waters shift from cobalt blue to emerald green, making for an exhilarating drive that feels like gliding across the sea itself. At the Kouri Island end of the bridge is Kouri Fureai Plaza (古宇利ふれあい広場), a rest stop with restaurants serving island ingredients, a shop, and a white sandy beach. A seafood lunch enjoyed with close-up views of the bridge and sea is one of the highlights of this course.

Tips

Stopping or parking on the bridge is prohibited. For photos, it's safest to use the viewing area on the Yagaji Island side before crossing, or Fureai Plaza on the far side. Island specialties like seafood rice bowls are popular for lunch, and it gets crowded around midday, so arriving a little early is recommended.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. Around midday, when the sun is high, the sea glows at its most vivid.
