The main attraction is Gyokusendo Cave (玉泉�rose洞), one of Japan's premier limestone caves, stretching approximately 5 km. Walking through the public sections reveals countless stalactites hanging from the ceiling and luminous underground springs—formations of beauty born over vast ages. On the surface, the Ryukyuan Kingdom Castle Town spreads with relocated traditional red-tile houses, offering rich craft experiences like bingata (紅型) dyeing and indigo dyeing. The Super Eisa performance, a contemporary arrangement of Eisa dance, delivers powerful impact with taiko drums' deep bass reverberating through your body—a fitting climax to your journey. With a snake museum and tropical fruit garden besides, there's enough to spend half a day exploring.
Tips
Upon entry, first check the Super Eisa performance schedule, then work backward to explore Gyokusendo Cave first for efficiency. The cave has many stairs and wet, slippery surfaces—wear comfortable walking shoes. The temperature difference between underground and above ground may be noticeable; a light cardigan helps. Check craft experience duration before signing up.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. The classic route is to explore Gyokusendo Cave and the Castle Town first, then time your visit to catch the Eisa performance.
