Experience Another Side of Ise: The Meoto Iwa (Married Couple Rocks) and Coastal Scenery
About this spot
One of Ise's most iconic scenic sites, this shrine is dedicated to Meoto Iwa (Married Couple Rocks)—two rocks standing in the sea—as its sacred deity. Connected by a sacred straw rope, the Meoto Iwa rocks stand approximately 30 feet and 13 feet tall, and are famous for framing the sunrise between them at dawn. The grounds feature numerous charming frog stone statues, popular with children. The expansive coastal views and the scent of the ocean reveal yet another facet of Ise, distinct from the deep forest sanctuary of the Grand Shrine. Plan to depart in the mid-to-late 4 PM hour, keeping in mind your movement time to the fireworks venue near the Miyagawa River.

伊勢神宮への奉納を冠する歴史ある花火大会で、約8,400発が宮川の夜空を彩ります。川の両岸から観覧できる開放的な河川敷の会場は、打ち上げ場所に近く迫力満点。川面に映る花火の光が揺れる様子は、河川敷の花火大会ならではの美しさです。伊勢神宮の存在を近くに感じる土地柄の雰囲気とあいまって、他の大会とは一線を画す厳かで豊かな時間が流れます。約1時間40分にわたって打ち上がる約8,400発のフィナーレは、宮川の夜空を埋め尽くすような大連発で締めくくられます。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表で事前に確認を。終了後は周辺道路と最寄り駅が大変混雑するため、フィナーレ後は河畔でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめ。伊勢市駅・宇治山田駅への帰り道は足元が暗い箇所もあるため、スマホのライトを活用して安全に。

From the Inner Shrine and Okage Yokocho, approximately 25–30 minutes by bus or taxi; also about a 10-minute walk from Futami Station (JR Sangu Line). Admission is free. The coastline can have wet footing, so wear comfortable, slip-resistant shoes. Given the evening move to the fireworks venue, check bus and train schedules in advance for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes total. Afternoon light makes the sea shimmer beautifully, and the Meoto Iwa rocks appear especially striking.
