About this spot

An ancient Shingon Buddhism temple counted among "Japan's Three Great Kannon" along with Asakusa Kannon and Kisarazu Kannon, located in central Tsu City. Passing through the vermillion-painted gate, a quiet temple ground opens up, and the main hall enshrines a Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) long cherished by Tsu's people. The grounds hold many notable sites, including a five-story pagoda, creating an atmosphere of calm unexpected in the heart of the city. Located just steps from Tsu Castle Site, this spot offers a quintessential Tsu experience where castle towns and temples stand side by side. Worship is free and even small children can stroll comfortably.

Tips

About 5 minutes on foot from Tsu Castle Site, and about 10 minutes on foot from Tsu Station. Worship is free. Traditional shops line the front gate, making it convenient for rest and light meals. Travel to the next destination, Takada Honzan Senju-ji Temple, by car or local bus.
