This is the viewing of the Kuwana Suigo Fireworks Festival (桑名水郷花火大会), with launches beginning at 19:30 on Saturday, July 25, 2026. About 10,000 fireworks launch into the sky above the surface of the Ibi River (揖斐川), with large-scale star mine sequences and giant shakudama shells that take advantage of the river's width filling the night sky. The reflections on the water's surface, unique to a water town, are beautiful, and the sight of the fireworks' light shimmering over the flowing river has a charm distinct from a fireworks display on land. The booming launch sounds that resonate in your chest and the cool breeze rising off the river set the scene for a summer night. Enjoy the festival's climax at a relaxed pace over the full 1 hour 30 minutes, through to the finale at 21:00.

The festival may be canceled or postponed in the event of severe weather or high water, so check Kuwana City's official announcement on the day to confirm whether it's going ahead. Afterward, the route back to Kuwana Station gets very crowded. It's a good idea to linger a while on the riverbank enjoying the afterglow before heading home to stagger the crowds, or to walk toward the station while letting the congestion ease. Some areas underfoot are dark, so bring your smartphone light or a small flashlight.
