Hisai Hachimangu Shrine (久居八幡宮), enshrined at the center of the town of Hisai, has been worshipped as the town's guardian shrine since the founding of the Hisai Domain. The grounds are covered in trees, creating a pleasant shaded space that softens the summer sun. Walking the stone-paved approach to pay your respects helps set your mood ahead of the fireworks festival night. Since the Hisai Fireworks Festival is also a major summer event for the region, pressing your palms together at the shrine before heading to watch the fireworks gives the day a sense of connected flow. The grounds aren't large, but they are a valuable place to spend some quiet time.

Tips

About a 5-minute walk from Todo Takamichi Park (藤堂高通公園), and also within walking distance of Hisai Station. Visiting is free. Mosquitoes are common on the grounds in summer, so it's a good idea to start using insect repellent spray from this point on.
