Next stop: About 3,000 fireworks from offshore in Miyazu Bay: a joint performance of toro nagashi and fireworksAbout this spot
A park adjoining the main viewing area of the Miyazu Toro Nagashi Fireworks Festival (宮津燈籠流し花火大会), with wide lawns facing Miyazu Bay (宮津湾). On the day of the festival, many spectators gather, and staking out spots picks up in earnest from the evening. The sunset view of Miyazu Bay from the park is beautiful, with the sea's color changing moment by moment as the sun lowers. Food stalls and vendors also set up nearby, so you can pick up dinner and fuel up leisurely on your sheet. As night falls, lanterns begin to drift across the water's surface, building a fantastical atmosphere even before the fireworks begin. Checking the location of restrooms at this time will give you peace of mind for the night.
Tips
Get here from central Miyazu on foot or by taxi. Roads in the area get congested from evening onward on the day of the fireworks, so an early move is recommended. Food and drinks at the stalls can sell out, so allow plenty of time to stock up. Be sure to take your trash home with you.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 40 minutes. From sunset to the toro nagashi lantern-floating, you can thoroughly enjoy the moment-by-moment changing face of Miyazu Bay
