About this spot

Ureshino Onsen's signature dish is onsen tofu, tofu simmered in the alkaline hot-spring water until it turns silky and soft. The minerals in Ureshino's water break down the tofu's proteins, giving it a texture so soft and smooth it's hard to cut with chopsticks — a dish unique to Ureshino Onsen. It's served at restaurants and inn dining rooms throughout the onsen town, usually as a set meal where you can savor the warm tofu at leisure. Since restaurants around the venue get crowded on the night of the fireworks festival, having an early dinner to fill up beforehand is the key to enjoying the fireworks comfortably. Many restaurants also offer menus featuring local Saga beef and Ureshino tea, letting you fully experience Ureshino's food culture.

Tips

There are several restaurants in the center of the onsen town, but since the evening of the fireworks festival gets crowded, it's recommended to enter around 5 p.m., before the rush. Checking business hours and crowd conditions in advance is reassuring. Since you'll move to Miyuki Park (みゆき公園) afterward to secure a spot, plan to finish your meal by 18:30.

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Finishing dinner about an hour and a half before the fireworks start lets you move to the venue with time to spare
