Standing on a hillside jutting into the mouth of Matsuura River (松浦川), this is Karatsu's symbol. Also called "Maizuru Castle" (舞鶴城), the white keep looks picturesque even from a distance, as if floating on the sea. From the observation floor on the fifth floor of the keep, your view extends across the flow of Matsuura River, which will be tonight's fireworks venue, the pine-lined Niji no Matsubara (虹の松原), and the horizon of Genkai Nada (玄界灘). Confirming the fireworks venue location from a high vantage point during daytime makes spot-securing in the evening smooth. The walking paths along the castle grounds' stone walls are easy to traverse, and you can walk comfortably in the autumn air.

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は唐津市または大会公式の発表で事前に確認してください。終了直後は周辺道路と公共交通が混雑します。終了後は少し時間をおいてから移動すると帰りがスムーズです。帰りの電車・バスの時刻は事前に調べておき、最終の時刻も確認しておきましょう。河川敷は足元が暗いため小さなライトがあると安全です。

Tips

About 20 minutes on foot from Karatsu Station (唐津駅), or a few minutes' walk after getting off at Toriimaе Bus Stop (鳥居前バス停) by bus. Admission to the keep is 500 yen for adults. There is an elevator, making it easy for small children to ascend. Each floor of the keep has historical exhibits about Karatsu, and a typical visit takes about 1 hour. On the way back, taking the walking path within the castle grounds naturally leads toward Karatsu Shrine (唐津神社).
