Overlook the Vast Kushiro Wetlands from the Observation Tower in the National Park

Standing in the core area of Kushiro Wetlands National Park, this observation tower allows you to overlook the vast landscape of Japan's largest wetland from an elevated viewpoint. From the tower, you can see the meandering rivers through the wetland, and on clear days, you may even spot red-crowned cranes. The building also has exhibition spaces introducing the wetland's ecosystem, which will deepen your understanding when combined with what you learned at the museum earlier. The magnificent scale of nature unique to Hokkaido will surely elicit exclamations of wonder from both adults and children. Around the observation tower, there are also walking trails to a satellite observation tower, and if time permits, you can enjoy a walk along the wetland's edge.

釧路大漁どんぱく花火大会は、釧路川河口付近を会場に約10,000発が打ち上げられる、北海道を代表する大規模な花火大会です。川の水面に映り込む花火の光が二重の絶景をつくり出し、海に近い河口ならではの開放的なロケーションで花火が夜空いっぱいに広がります。9月の釧路の澄んだ夜空は透明度が高く、花火の色彩が鮮やかに映えます。フィナーレに向けて連続して打ち上がる約10,000発の迫力は圧巻で、北海道の秋夜にふさわしいスケールの大きな締めくくりです。

Tips

観覧は河口付近の河川敷や周辺の広場から。会場周辺は開始前から混雑するため、19時の開始30分前には場所を確保しておきましょう。9月の釧路の夜は気温が10度前後まで下がることがあるので、防寒着は必須です。終了後は周辺道路が渋滞するため、車の場合は時間差で移動を。公共交通機関の最終便も事前に確認しておきましょう。

Tips

About 20 minutes by car from Kushiro Station. Also accessible by local bus heading to Kushiro Wetlands Observation Tower, but service is limited, so check the schedule in advance. Admission is 490 yen for adults. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the trails around the observation tower. Plan to depart by 4 PM so you can return with plenty of time for the evening meal.
