About this spot

Iioka in Asahi City is one of Chiba Prefecture's leading fishing ports, known for its catches of golden eye snapper (kinmedai), Japanese spiny lobster (ise-ebi), and flounder. Around the port are seafood shops selling dried fish and fish-paste products, where you can pick up local seafood as souvenirs. Just walking along the quay where fishing boats are moored gives you a feel for a working fishing town. It's also close to Iioka Coast (飯岡海岸), the fireworks festival venue, making it a good spot for a stroll before the main move in the evening. Take a moment to breathe in the sea air at the port and build up energy for the night ahead.

Tips

About a 5-minute drive from the Iioka Gyobu-misaki Observatory (飯岡刑部岬展望台). Parking space at the fishing port is limited, so it's wise to move toward the venue area early in the evening on the day of the fireworks festival. Putting purchases like dried fish in an insulated bag will keep them safe until you head home.
