About this spot

A park developed on the former site of Ikeda Castle (池田城), ruled by the Ikeda clan during the Sengoku period. Today, a corner turret has been reconstructed based on the castle's remains, its white walls and tiled roof standing out beautifully against the blue autumn sky. From the small hill where the castle once stood, you can look out over central Ikeda, offering a different angle on the city than Satsukiyama Park (五月山公園). Historical information boards are also set up, making it a comfortably sized spot to stroll while imagining what the castle looked like in its day, together with children. Free admission adds to the appeal of dropping in casually.

Tips

Within walking distance of Satsukiyama Park (五月山公園). Admission is free. The castle ruins have some uneven ground, so watch your step. The sun sets early on autumn evenings, and it starts getting dim after 4pm, so finish your visit while it's still light and head toward the riverbed.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. In the slanting afternoon light, the white walls of the reconstructed turret look especially beautiful
