This old temple sits at the base of the Murozumi Peninsula (室積半島) in Hikari City's (光市) Murozumi district and has long been cherished by the local community. The grounds are quiet and deeply green, and simply walking slowly beneath the trees that block the summer sun brings a sense of calm. Murozumi is a historic port town that flourished in the Edo period as a port of call for kitamae-bune trading ships, and the area around the temple retains the atmosphere of an old townscape, making it a perfect area for a midday stroll before the fireworks. After visiting the temple grounds, take a short walk through the streets of Murozumi to feel the historical air of the area. It's a spot where you can treasure a quiet afternoon before the lively night ahead.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from Kanmuri Plum Garden (冠梅園). Some roads around Murozumi are narrow, so drive carefully. Visiting the temple is free. Murozumi Port and the seaside promenade are also nearby, and it's worth taking a casual walk after your visit to feel the atmosphere of the sea. The next stop, Nijigahama (虹ヶ浜), is about a 5-10 minute drive away.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The afternoon sun filtering softly through the trees onto the grounds makes for a pleasant time
