Nijigahama Beach (虹ケ浜海水浴場)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This is Hikari City's (光市) leading swimming beach, a beautiful stretch of white sand running roughly 1.7km. It has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Shores (日本の渚百選), and because it faces the calm Suo Sea (周防灘), the waves are gentle, making it a beach loved locally as a safe place to play with children. It's also the very venue for tonight's fireworks festival, so getting a feel for the beach's atmosphere, size, and restroom locations during the day makes the evening much easier. The water is shallow and clear near the shore, so if you'd like to enjoy playing in the water, bring swimwear and a change of clothes to fully enjoy the summer sea. The contrast between the summer blue sky and white sand is beautiful, so be sure to take some daytime memorial photos on the day of the fireworks festival.

Tips

From the evening onward on the day of the fireworks festival, parking lots and surrounding roads become very crowded. It's reassuring to plan ahead, either securing a place to park at this time or making use of public transportation. If you plan to swim, prepare a change of clothes and a towel. Check the restroom locations during the day. We recommend picking up drinks early and bringing them to your sheet.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. A good stretch of time to fully enjoy the summer sea during the day
