About this spot

This is the departure port for the Boyo Ferry's Orange Line, connecting Yamaguchi and Ehime, crossing to Matsuyama's Mitsuhama Port on the opposite shore in about 2 hours 35 minutes. The route passes through the Owabata Strait and under the Oshima Bridge, opening up a view of the many islands typical of the Seto Inland Sea. In the evening of the Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival, food stalls start to set up in the white-walled old town, the venue. Since the town center is within walking distance from the port, take a moment beforehand to watch the sky darken from a spot with a sea view.

Tips

Food stalls and vendors can vary depending on the festival's operations, so it's reassuring to bring extra drinks with you. Restrooms tend to get crowded, so use them with time to spare before heading to the venue. It's smoother if the adults take turns watching the group's belongings.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Dusk, when the goldfish lanterns light up, is when the festival atmosphere reaches its peak.
