Next stop: About 20,000 shells color the night sky and river's surface — Yamanashi's largest fireworks displayAbout this spot
Sangun East Bridge (三郡東橋) spans the Fuefuki River (笛吹川). The Fuefuki River flows down through the Kofu Basin and, further ahead in Ichikawa-Misato Town (市川三郷町), merges with the Kamanashi River (釜無川) to become the Fuji River (富士川), which empties into Suruga Bay. The main viewing area for the Shinmei Fireworks Festival is the Fuefuki riverbank downstream of Sangun Bridge (三郡橋), where you wait for the show to start with a leisure sheet spread on the levee or riverbed. As the sun sinks, the water's surface shifts from orange to indigo, and the surrounding mountain ridgelines rise against the evening sky. It gets crowded an hour before showtime, so secure your spot early.
Tips
On the day of the fireworks display, roads around the venue are congested throughout the area. If using public transportation, the nearest station is Ichikawa-Daimon Station (市川大門駅) on the JR Minobu Line (JR身延線) (about a 20-minute walk to the venue). If driving, be sure to check official parking and traffic regulation information in advance. We strongly recommend using the restroom before the show begins.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Savor the time as the water's color changes from dusk onward
