An Impressive Kibi Road Spot - Enter the Massive Stone Chamber from the Kofun Period

About this spot

A keyhole-shaped mound built in the late 6th century with a total length of approximately 100 meters. The greatest feature is the ability to actually enter the stone chamber inside. The massive horizontal stone chamber, approximately 4 meters high and 18 meters deep, ranks among the largest of its kind in Okayama Prefecture, and the impressive power of the stacked megaliths amazes both adults and children. Visitors can walk from the entrance through the stone chamber interior, and the real experience of feeling ancient stone construction techniques up close provides emotional impact that textbook photos cannot convey. Located near Bicchu Kokubun-ji, it's easy to stop by when visiting historic sites along Kibi Road.

総社夏まつりのクライマックスを飾る花火大会で、高梁川の上空に約2,500発が打ち上げられます。河川敷グラウンドは打ち上げ場所のすぐそばに位置しており、頭上近くで開く大輪の花火の迫力は格別です。川面に映る光の帯と、吉備路の夜空に広がる花火の競演は、1日の締めくくりにふさわしいスケールの大きさ。屋台のにぎわいや夏まつりの雰囲気の中で楽しむ花火は、総社の夏の風物詩として地元の人々に親しまれています。涼しい川風とともに、吉備路の夏の夜を存分に楽しみましょう。

Tips

開催時間は未定のため、総社市の公式発表で最新情報を確認してください。荒天時の開催可否も公式発表に従いましょう。終了後は会場周辺の道路と総社駅が混み合うため、フィナーレ後はしばらく河川敷で余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめです。足元が暗くなるので小さなライトがあると安心です。

Tips

About 5 minutes by car from Bicchu Kokubun-ji. Viewing is free. Since the stone chamber interior is dark, a smartphone flashlight function is convenient. The stone chamber floor is uneven in places, so hold small children's hands to view safely. In summer, the shade of the mound provides a cool rest area.
