Experience the Five-Story Pagoda Rising in the Rural Landscape and Ancient Romance of Kibi Road
About this spot
One of the provincial temples established nationwide by order of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period, the existing five-story pagoda was rebuilt during the Edo period, but with a height of approximately 34 meters, it is widely recognized as a symbol of Kibi Road. The surrounding area has well-maintained walking trails, and it's popular to stroll along paddy field ridges while viewing the five-story pagoda from front and side angles. In summer, the five-story pagoda set against green rice fields and blue sky is beautiful, with excellent photography spots throughout the grounds. Foundation stones remain on the grounds, allowing visitors to imagine the scale of the ancient temple complex. Before departing for the afternoon activities, enjoy plenty of the historical weight and expansive rural landscape of Kibi Road.

総社夏まつりのクライマックスを飾る花火大会で、高梁川の上空に約2,500発が打ち上げられます。河川敷グラウンドは打ち上げ場所のすぐそばに位置しており、頭上近くで開く大輪の花火の迫力は格別です。川面に映る光の帯と、吉備路の夜空に広がる花火の競演は、1日の締めくくりにふさわしいスケールの大きさ。屋台のにぎわいや夏まつりの雰囲気の中で楽しむ花火は、総社の夏の風物詩として地元の人々に親しまれています。涼しい川風とともに、吉備路の夏の夜を存分に楽しみましょう。
Tips
開催時間は未定のため、総社市の公式発表で最新情報を確認してください。荒天時の開催可否も公式発表に従いましょう。終了後は会場周辺の道路と総社駅が混み合うため、フィナーレ後はしばらく河川敷で余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめです。足元が暗くなるので小さなライトがあると安心です。
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Soja Station, or accessible by bicycle on the Kibi Road cycling course. Entry to the temple grounds is free. Parking available. On sunny summer days, bring a hat and drink water as the sun is strong. Some walking trails are unpaved, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. This is the time when the contrast between the five-story pagoda and rural landscape appears most beautiful in the bright daylight.
