A flat-mountain castle built by Moritada Mori in the early Edo period, its stone walls are designated as a National Historic Site. Along with Bicchu Matsuyama Castle and Bingo Fukuyama Castle, it is counted among the "Three Greatest Flat-Mountain Castles of Japan," and the scale and beautiful masonry of its existing stone walls are among the finest in the nation. Climbing the slope within the park to reach the castle keep platform affords views spanning nearly 270 degrees of the Yoshii River flowing through the Tsuyama Basin and the surrounding cityscape. While famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot in spring, summer wraps it in deep verdant quiet—a comfortable atmosphere where you can stroll leisurely in cool shade. On the day of the fireworks festival, visit during the day to leisurely explore the castle grounds and build up your energy for the evening spectacle.

津山夏まつりのクライマックスを飾る塩手池花火大会の会場です。塩手池のほとりに広がるつつみの広場から、池の上空へ打ち上げられる約3,000発の花火を間近で楽しめます。池面に映る逆さ花火との共演は、池畔という立地ならではの見応えで、山に囲まれた盆地の夜空に広がる花火は音の響きも格別です。津山の夏を締めくくるこの花火大会は地元市民にも愛される風物詩で、会場には家族連れや浴衣姿の人々が集まり、夏祭りの活気に包まれます。レジャーシートを広げてゆっくり腰を落ち着け、1日の旅のフィナーレを花火で飾りましょう。

Tips

開催時間は2026年時点で未定のため、大会公式発表・津山市の案内を必ず事前確認してください。当日は周辺が混雑するため早めに現地へ。駐車場の場所と収容台数も事前確認が必要です。終了後は帰路の混雑が予想されるため、フィナーレ後は少し余韻を楽しんでから移動するとスムーズです。池畔は足元が暗くなるのでスマホのライトがあると安心です。

Tips

Approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Tsuyama Station. Admission is 310 yen for adults. The park has uneven terrain, so wear comfortable walking shoes. In summer, the sun is intense, so bring a hat and stay hydrated. Rest and recuperate using the shops and vending machines within the castle grounds.
