A townscape that retains an old-fashioned atmosphere, spreading out in front of the gate of Saidaiji Kannon-in. It developed historically as the temple's gate town, and today local shops, Japanese confectioners, and grocery stores still line the streets. You can enjoy a stroll with a relaxed, everyday feel quite different from a tourist-oriented shopping street. On the day of the fireworks festival, the area grows busier from evening onward, so this earlier time is best for a leisurely walk. Sample a little Japanese confectionery or other local specialties as you snack your way through and feel the everyday air of Saidaiji.

This area is right around Saidaiji Kannon-in. The summer sun is strong, so a parasol or hat comes in handy. On the day of the fireworks festival, visitor numbers rise from evening onward, so this time of day lets you walk at ease. It's a good idea to pick up drinks along the way.
