About this spot

Along the Kitakami River flowing through central Morioka, a maintained promenade continues. View the flow of the river that continues to tonight's fireworks venue at the riverbed below Tonan Bridge (都南大橋下流), and leisurely stroll while feeling the river breeze. The view from Kaiun Bridge (開運橋) is particularly famous, and the landscape capturing both the Kitakami River and Mt. Iwate together is a representative viewpoint of Morioka. Rest on benches along the river while surveying the sky above the downstream area where fireworks will burst, which will make your evening viewing all the more enjoyable.

Tips

About 5 minutes on foot from Odori Shopping Arcade to the Kitakami River. The promenade is level and easy to walk, accessible even with a baby carriage. Don't forget a hat and hydration for the intense afternoon summer heat. It's convenient to procure dinner items at nearby convenience stores along the river.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour 45 minutes. The late afternoon river breeze is pleasant, and the Mt. Iwate view from Kaiun Bridge is captivating, making you lose track of time.
