About this spot
A free rose garden sprawling across the Hanamaki Onsen district, boasting one of the largest scales in the Tohoku region. With approximately 6,000 roses of over 200 varieties planted throughout, the garden is adorned with colorful blooms from early summer through summer. Located adjacent to the onsen town lined with hot spring inns, a leisurely walk along pathways surrounded by the fragrance of flowers will soothe your spirit. As a midday stroll before the fireworks show, it is an area that can be enjoyed casually by everyone from children to adults. It is one of the standard spots for Hanamaki sightseeing where you can also enjoy the atmosphere of the onsen town.

田瀬湖湖水まつりのクライマックス、水・空中花火大会は山あいの静かな湖を舞台に繰り広げられる夏の一大イベントです。湖上から打ち上がる空中花火は夜空に大きく開いて周囲の山々に音が反響し、体の芯まで響く迫力があります。水中花火は湖面すれすれで光の半円をパッと広げ、湖面に映る逆さ花火との競演が田瀬湖ならではの絶景を生み出します。都会の花火大会とはひと味違う、山と湖に包まれた自然の中で楽しむ岩手の夏の風物詩です。
Tips
開催時間は当日の公式発表で必ず確認してください。荒天時の開催可否も大会公式発表に従ってください。終了後は会場周辺の道路が混み合うため、フィナーレ後は湖畔で余韻を楽しんでから時間差での帰路がおすすめです。足元が暗くなるので小さなライトがあると安心です。
Tips
Near Hanamaki Onsen bus stop; approximately 30 minutes by local bus or about 15 minutes by car from Hanamaki Station. Admission is free. The best season for roses varies by variety, but in July you can enjoy summer-blooming varieties. Restrooms and rest areas are well-maintained, so it is safe to visit with small children.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. The rose colors appear more vivid in the bright afternoon sunlight.
