A Lake Shinji-shore inn of the Matsue Shinjiko Onsen hot spring, where you can look out over the lake from the lobby, restaurant, cafe lounge, and other spots throughout the building. Alongside separate large baths for men and women, there's an open-air rock bath for men and an open-air hinoki-wood bath for women, and the in-house restaurant Shishokumitei lets you dine while gazing at the lake. On the evening of the fireworks display, the whole lakeshore is wrapped in festival air, and the colors of the sky and lake surface shift moment by moment as the sun sinks. Deciding on your viewing spot before the sun fully sets lets you approach fireworks time with plenty to spare.
Tips
Take the bus or walk from Matsue Station (松江駅) to the Lake Shinji shore. On the day of the fireworks, viewers increase rapidly from evening onward, so it's ideal to arrive at the lakeshore by around 5 p.m. Locate the restrooms early and use them before the nighttime crowds build, for peace of mind. The lakeshore can be windy on some days, so weigh down your sheet with your belongings so it doesn't blow away.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 30 minutes. The sunset and the sky's shifting colors from around 5 to 6 p.m. are this spot's biggest highlight
