About this spot

The right bank of the Numata River (沼田川), downstream of Hongo Ohashi Bridge (本郷大橋), is tonight's main fireworks viewing area. From early evening, families start gathering to stake out spots, and food stalls line up to create festival bustle. With a pleasant river breeze that grows cooler as the sun goes down, the riverbed is the perfect place to cool off on a summer evening. Once you spread out your leisure sheet, take your time having dinner with food from the stalls or snacks you brought. As the water turns indigo and lights begin reflecting on the opposite bank, the show is about to begin. It is reassuring to use the restroom before the show starts.

Tips

The earlier you arrive, the better a spot you can secure. Parts of the riverbed have grass or dirt ground that can be uneven underfoot, so sneakers are recommended over sandals. Food stall crowds peak about an hour before the show starts, so buying your food early lets you eat at a relaxed pace.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. Wait for the show while enjoying the transition from sunset to the river turning indigo.
