About this spot

This is Takehara's gateway port, where ferries depart for Osakikamijima (大崎上島) and other destinations, with the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海) spreading out right in front of you. There are restaurants and shops around the port, making it a good place to pick up dinner and fuel up while enjoying the evening sea breeze. It's also close to the fireworks launch site off the J-POWER (Electric Power Development) Ground (J-POWER（電源開発）グラウンド), so you can scout out a viewing spot in the evening while checking the atmosphere around the venue. The view of the Seto Inland Sea turning amber as the sun sets is a fine opening act before the fireworks.

Tips

About 10-15 minutes on foot from JR Takehara Station (JR竹原駅). On the day of the fireworks display, the area around the venue starts to get crowded from evening, so buy your food and drinks early. Convenience stores and shops are expected to be crowded, so it's reassuring to stock up around the station in advance. Also check the location of restrooms while it's still daytime.

Best time to visit

About 3 hours. From dusk until the fireworks begin, take your time enjoying the changing expression of the sea.
