Mitsuhama is a historic port town that once flourished as Matsuyama's gateway to the sea, and it still retains a laid-back atmosphere with fishing boats and ferry boats coming and going. At dusk, the harbor is a quiet and beautiful sight as the water's surface turns orange. After having dinner at the Mitsuhama shopping street or one of the eateries around the harbor, head to the viewing area at Mitsu Wharf, spread out a picnic sheet, and wait for the show to begin. Wrapped in the scent of the sea as the night sky deepens, this is a precious moment of anticipation before the fireworks festival. On the day of the port festival, food stalls and vendors add to the lively atmosphere as preparations for the night unfold.

Tips

Accessible on foot from Iyotetsu Mitsu Station or Minatoyama Station. Roads and parking lots in the area get extremely congested on the day of the fireworks festival, so using public transportation is strongly recommended. Congestion at dinner increases after 7 p.m., so finishing your meal around 5 p.m. gives you more breathing room. Secure your viewing spot early. The harbor's quay becomes dark underfoot, so be careful when moving around.

About 2 hours 15 minutes. The moment the sunset falls over the harbor shows Mitsuhama at its most beautiful.
