Approximately 10,000 fireworks illuminate the Seto Inland Sea night sky—Imabari's largest summer fireworks festival

About this spot

The climactic fireworks festival of the Imabari Citizen's Festival "Onmaku," where approximately 10,000 fireworks are launched from the Imabari Port breakwater for 50 minutes starting at 8 PM on August 9, 2026 (Sunday). "Onmaku" is a local Imabari dialect meaning "with all one's might" or "in abundance," and true to its name, spectacular fireworks fill the Seto Inland Sea night sky. The large bursts of fireworks viewed from the open space of the harbor are unobstructed, and the shimmering reflections of light on the water surface are spectacular. Different from fireworks in lakeside mountain valleys, the openness and impact of a waterfront harbor setting can be savored fully over these 50 minutes. The moment the finale's rapid-fire bursts illuminate the entire harbor offers emotional impact that will overshadow all the memories of this day.

Tips

For confirmation of whether the event will be held in case of bad weather, check the official announcement from Imabari City or the "Onmaku" Executive Committee on the day. After the fireworks end, Imabari Station and surrounding bus stops will be very crowded. If you depart the harbor area a bit later after the fireworks conclude, movement will be relatively smoother. Plan your return transportation (bus, taxi, or car) in advance. Since it will be dark, use your smartphone's flashlight and move safely.

Best time to visit

Coordinated with the 8:00 PM–8:50 PM performance time. Please be seated 30 minutes before the start to enjoy the nighttime harbor atmosphere while waiting for the show to begin.
