This fireworks display forms the climax of the Imabari Citizens' Festival 'Onmaku,' with about 10,000 shells launched from the Port of Imabari breakwater over 50 minutes starting at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026. 'Onmaku' (おんまく) is an Imabari dialect word meaning 'to go all out' or 'with all your might,' and true to its name, bold fireworks spread across the entire Seto Inland Sea night sky. Viewed from the open space of the harbor, the giant bursts have nothing blocking them, and the shimmering reflections of light on the water's surface are equally impressive. Unlike fireworks over a mountain lake, these 50 minutes let you fully experience the openness and impact unique to a seaside harbor. The moment the finale's continuous barrage lights up the entire harbor is moving enough to redefine every memory of the day.

Check the official announcement from the City of Imabari or the 'Onmaku' executive committee on the day for whether the event will proceed in bad weather. After the show ends, Imabari Station and nearby bus stops get extremely crowded. Moving around the harbor area after waiting a bit once the fireworks end tends to be relatively smooth. Plan your transportation home (bus, taxi, or car) in advance. It gets dark underfoot, so use your smartphone's light and move safely.

Best time to visit

Time your visit to the event hours of 8:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. Take your seat 30 minutes before the start and enjoy the atmosphere of the harbor at night while waiting for the show to begin.
