About this spot

The area around Katahara-cho (片原町) on the Port of Imabari breakwater is the main viewing area for tonight's 'Onmaku' fireworks. Along the breakwater facing the Seto Inland Sea, a cool, pleasant sea breeze blows through as evening falls. The sea at dusk, with the western sky turning orange, makes the time before the fireworks especially special. Spread out a picnic sheet and wait for the show while enjoying drinks and snacks from the food stalls to soak up the atmosphere. Viewing spaces start filling up from an early hour on the day of the fireworks, so it's important to arrive by around 6:00 p.m. to secure a spot with plenty of time to spare.

Tips

About a 15-minute walk from Imabari Station. Traffic restrictions may be in place on surrounding roads on the day of the fireworks festival, so check official traffic information in advance. Use the restroom before the show starts. Since the breakwater surface is concrete, bringing a cushion or a folding seat cushion will make it more comfortable even for a long wait. Some food stall items sell out early, so it's reassuring to have your food already picked up from the shopping street.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. Enjoy the leisurely wait for the fireworks to start while watching the colors of the Seto Inland Sea change moment by moment around sunset.
