Just a short walk from Uwajima Station lies this nostalgic arcade shopping street in the heart of the city. Shops here specialize in Uwajima's local specialties: pearls, jakoten (fish cake), and citrus products. The street buzzes with local atmosphere and charm. During the Ushioni Matsuri festival period, the shopping street takes on festive energy, with uchiwa fans and decorations on display. If you pick up souvenirs before dinner, you can enjoy the fireworks later unburdened by shopping bags.

宇和島の夏の一大祭典「うわじま牛鬼まつり」のフィナーレを飾る海上打上花火です。2026年7月22日(水)20時から20時30分の30分間、宇和島湾の夜空に約7,000発が次々と打ち上がります。穏やかな内海である宇和島湾の水面に映り込む花火の光は、海上打上ならではの美しさ。牛鬼まつりの名の由来となった郷土の祭り文化と、南予の海の風景が重なる夏の夜のクライマックスを、波の音とともに堪能しましょう。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は宇和島市の公式情報で確認を。終了後は湾岸周辺と宇和島駅が大変混雑します。フィナーレ後は少し時間をおいてから駅へ向かう時間差帰宅がおすすめ。足元が暗い場所があるため、スマートフォンのライトを用意しておきましょう。

About 5 minutes on foot from Uwajima Station. During the festival period, crowds increase, so keep valuables secure. Storing your purchases in the station's coin lockers keeps you light for the evening. Jakoten can be eaten as-is and makes for convenient snacking while walking.
