At the mouth of the bay, Kushima Island, roughly 10 km around, lies as a natural breakwater, making this a natural harbor of refuge where boats from ports along the coast take shelter during typhoons. Tonight's offshore fireworks launch from off Sakashitazu within this bay. In the evening, Uwajima Bay is at its most beautiful, with the colors of sky and sea shifting moment by moment as the sun sets behind the western mountains. Spread out your leisure sheet along the bayside, lined with food stalls, to secure a viewing spot, then enjoy the festival atmosphere of the Ushioni Festival while you wait for the show to start. It's reassuring to check restroom locations early as well.

Tips

The bayside area is within walking distance of Uwajima Station. Traffic restrictions may be in place during the festival period, so check official information in advance. Food at the stalls can sell out early, so it's a good idea to pick up a light drink here separately from your dinner.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 10 minutes. Arriving more than an hour before the fireworks start makes it easier to secure a good viewing spot
