From the front of Toyohashi Station (豊橋駅) to Hirokoji-dori (広小路通り), a distinctly Toyohashi scene unfolds where the Toyohashi Railroad City Line (豊橋鉄道市内線) streetcars run. Along the boulevard, where streetcars, cars, and pedestrians share the road, shops and restaurants line the street, making it a great area to enjoy the atmosphere of a city walk while taking a break. On the day of the fireworks display, the area in front of the station also gets busier from the evening, so it's reassuring to pick up a light snack and drinks for the night during this time slot. It's also fun to look for shops serving Toyohashi's local specialties, known as the city's soul food, such as Toyohashi curry udon (豊橋カレーうどん) and Toyohashi Yamasa's chikuwa fish cakes (豊橋ヤマサのちくわ).

Tips

About a 5-minute ride on the streetcar, the Toyohashi Railroad City Line (豊橋鉄道市内線), from the Toyohashi City Public Hall (豊橋市公会堂) to the Toyohashi-ekimae stop (豊橋駅前電停). On the evening of the fireworks display, commuters heading home and spectators overlap, causing congestion, so it's best to finish shopping early. Coin lockers are available inside Toyohashi Station, so storing your luggage there lets you move freely until night.
