The Shinano River embankment, which serves as the venue for the Odiya Matsuri Grand Fireworks Festival, becomes lined with food stalls as evening approaches, enveloped in the festive atmosphere of the festival. While enjoying dinner at traditional festival food stalls offering yakisoba (grilled noodles), karaage (fried chicken), cold drinks and more, spread out your leisure sheet to secure a good viewing spot. The Shinano River has a wide channel, and the open vista across to the opposite bank is delightfully refreshing. As the sun tilts toward the horizon, the silhouettes of mountains on the far bank float against the evening sky, and the quiet sense of anticipation before the fireworks grows. おぢやまつり大花火大会は、毎年多くの来場者が訪れる小千谷市の夏の大イベントです。信濃川の広い川幅を舞台に約7,000発が打ち上がり、大玉花火が夜空に大きく開く迫力は格別です。河川敷からは打ち上げ地点が間近に見え、花火の音と光が体に直接響いてくる臨場感があります。川面に映る花火の反射が作り出す光景は、川辺の花火大会ならではの美しさです。越後の山並みに囲まれた盆地の夜空に開く大輪の花火は、都市部の花火大会とは異なる雄大なスケールを感じさせます。1日の締めくくりにふさわしい、忘れられない夏の夜です。
