The banks of the Shinano River (信濃川), the venue for the Ojiya Matsuri Grand Fireworks Festival, become lined with food stalls in the evening and filled with festival excitement. Have dinner at the classic festival stalls selling yakisoba, fried chicken, and cold drinks, while spreading out a picnic sheet to claim your viewing spot. The Shinano River is wide, and the open view all the way to the opposite bank feels pleasant. As the sun sinks, the silhouette of the mountains on the opposite bank rises against the evening sky, and quiet anticipation builds before the fireworks. Use this time to take care of preparations for the night ahead, such as using the restroom and organizing your belongings.

Tips

Roads around the venue become congested from evening onward on the day of the fireworks festival. It's recommended to arrive as early as possible or use public transportation. Cashless payment may be limited at the food stalls, so it's reassuring to have cash on hand. Restrooms are the temporary ones set up at the venue and tend to have lines, so it's best to use them early.
